Why Garage Floor Coatings Fail—and How to Avoid It
Understand peeling, preparation, moisture and cure-time issues before recoating your garage.
Start beneath the coating
A peeling floor can have more than one cause. Inadequate preparation, contamination, moisture, unsuitable materials or early use may all contribute. Simply covering a failing finish can leave the original weakness in place. An inspection should establish which layers are sound and what needs to be removed.
Preparation is part of the installation
Twin Lakes Epoxy mechanically diamond-grinds concrete before its coating work and scopes the required crack and surface repairs. Cleaning alone does not establish that a slab is ready. The prepared surface must suit the specified system, and dust, oils and old coatings need appropriate treatment.
Moisture and movement
Moisture concerns, recurring cracks and moving joints need assessment before coating. A decorative finish does not fix drainage, structural movement or an ongoing water problem. Tell the installer about flooding, damp spots and previous failures so the quote can address the actual conditions.
Conditions and cure time
Application conditions and product mixing, coverage and cure requirements matter. Avoid returning vehicles or heavy equipment before the written schedule permits it. Before recoating a failed floor
