Polyaspartic vs Epoxy: Choosing a Garage Floor System
Compare floor-coating layers, preparation, cure time and sunlight exposure before choosing a garage floor.
Compare the complete system
“Epoxy flooring” is often used as a general name for several resin-coating systems. A project may combine a prepared substrate, a bonding layer, decorative material and a protective topcoat. Ask which products are proposed for each layer and why they suit your floor. A product name alone does not tell you how an installation will perform.
Sunlight and the finish
Sunlight at garage doors and windows, and on outdoor patios, should influence product selection. Ask the installer to explain the proposed topcoat’s UV suitability and any limitations on color change. Do not assume every epoxy or every fast-curing coating is interchangeable or suitable outdoors.
Cure time and returning to use
A quick cure is not the only goal. Surface preparation and the time required by the actual product matter. Twin Lakes Epoxy favors a slower-cure process and typically plans about two and a half days for installation. Foot traffic, vehicle traffic and heavy equipment can have different return-to-service requirements; follow the written instructions for your job.
Traffic, spills and slab condition
A garage, restaurant, workshop and pool deck face different demands. Discuss hot tires, tools, cleaning chemicals, wet footing and sunlight before selecting a finish. Product-specific resistance and maintenance instructions are more useful than broad claims that one coating is several times stronger than another.
Questions to ask before approving a quote
Ask about mechanical preparation, crack treatment, moisture evaluation, coating layers, texture, cure schedule and aftercare. Get the included work and exclusions in writing. Compare those answers alongside the total price, and choose a system matched to the concrete and how you use the space.
