Epoxy Countertops vs Granite: What Fits Your Project?
Compare countertop resurfacing, custom appearance, care and project scope before choosing a finish.
Resurfacing and replacement are different projects
An epoxy countertop finish can offer a custom look over a suitable existing surface. Granite generally involves choosing and installing a stone slab. Whether resurfacing is appropriate depends on the stability, condition and shape of the existing countertop; an inspection comes before a promise to coat it.
Compare complete quotes
Ask both contractors what removal, substrate repair, edge work, sink work and installation are included. Floor-coating square-foot prices do not apply to countertops. Compare written countertop quotes for the actual kitchen or bathroom rather than assuming one material always costs less.
Appearance and samples
Metallic epoxy can create a custom poured pattern, with variation from one installation to another. Stone offers its own slab pattern. Review a physical finish sample and discuss color, sheen and the amount of variation you are comfortable with before committing to a design.
Daily care matters
Use cutting boards and trivets and follow the finish manufacturer’s cleaning guidance. Do not assume a countertop is scratch-proof or that hot cookware can be placed directly on it. Ask for product-specific care instructions and written coverage rather than relying on a broad heat-resistance or lifetime claim.
Plan the kitchen downtime
Discuss sink access, appliances, protection of nearby surfaces and cure time. Rex or Houston will assess the existing surface and describe the preparation, finish and return-to-use timing. Call Mary to arrange a countertop estimate and explain whether you are updating a kitchen, bar or bathroom.
